Redundancies, KSF and VAT among questions

by isleofman.com 17th May 2011

The order paper for the May sitting of Tynwald, which gets under way this morning, contains a mixed bag of relatively low key items.

And there are 31 questions, the vast majority of which, 27, are for oral answer.

Treasury Minister Anne Craine will seek approval for nearly ?7 million of capital expenditure, which has been completed ahead of schedule.

South Douglas MHK Bill Malarkey will call for a referendum on a popularly elected Legislative Council and chief minister, and a number of recommendations will be considered in relation to standing committees of Tynwald, and members interests and pay.

Chief Minister Tony Brown is due to make statements on Meary Veg, Santon and the Whitley Council, and Onchan member Peter Karran will propose a tightening of rules for the Liverpool Care Pathway for dying patients.

Topics on the question paper include the recent redundancies at the steam and electric railways, the failure of Kaupthing, Singer and Friedlander, and the VAT revenue sharing agreement with the United Kingdom.
