CELEBRITIES from the worlds of sport, TV and showbusiness will be on the Isle of Man tomorrow (Tuesday) for the annual Sir Norman Wisdom Wooden Spoon charity golf day at Castletown Golf Club.
Sponsored this year by Celton Manx, the event has grown in popularity over the years and has raised many thousands of pounds for the charity which supports children’s causes.
This year the event is once again fully subscribed with 18 teams sponsored by a variety of local companies. Each team plays with one of the celebrities who also join them for dinner in the Palace Hotel.
Sir Norman Wisdom has given his name in perpetuity for the event and this year his son Nick and daughter Jacqui will be attending in memory of their father who was a regular player in the event over many years and who sadly passed away last year.
The list of celebrities is led once again by one of Wooden Spoon’s most consistent supporters - comedian Stan Boardman.
New to the event this year are athletes Roger Black and Steve Backley, who are on the Island this week.
Regular supporters of the event are also back on the Island, including footballers Andy Ritchie, David Johnston, Duncan McKenzie, Dean Windass and John Hendry.
Superbike and Moto GP rider Leon Haslam also returns for the event, as well as former rugby league star Frank Myler. Boxer John H Stracey also returns to support Wooden Spoon.
Showbusiness entertainers include Bernie Flint, Paul McCoy, Danny Roman and comedian Alan James.
The golf has a shotgun start at 12 noon and spectators are warmly invited to watch the golf and meet the celebrities. There is no admission fee.
