Could Island be welcoming a new arrival?

The Isle of Man could become a refuge for red squirrels if a conservation group gets the go ahead to implement its plan.

Chairman of the Countryside Restoration Trust Robin Page has held meetings with senior Manx government representatives about the possibility of introducing the iconic animal.

The species isn't under threat worldwide, but in the United Kingdom there are thought to be as few as 140,000 individuals left, due to competition from grey squirrels and loss of habitat.

Mr Page told Manx Radio plans are still at an early stage:
