A room at Anagh Coar Primary School has been officially dedicated to a popular head teacher who died a year ago.

Next Tuesday (May 17) marks the first anniversary of the death from illness of Vicky Dassoulas and today (Friday) the room was named Vicky's Place.

She had helped to draw up the plans for a special room within the school to be used by community groups and families of pupils and, following her death, the staff decided to continue with the project and dedicate the room to her.

Initial work was completed in May last year and furniture, donated by B&B, was chosen and put in place in October.

The room contains a memorial plaque and a picture frame, filled with photographs of the Chinese lantern release which took place last May. Mrs Dassoulas planned the event before her death as a way for her pupils, and their parents, to say goodbye to her.

The room is also used to host the weekly Captain's Table, a reward for good behaviour at lunchtimes.
