Annual bra dash to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer

by isleofman.com 11th May 2011

DON'T be alarmed if you spot hundreds of people running around the Island in their underwear later this week.

Around 400 people are set to take part in the annual Bra Dash to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Dashes will take place in Castletown and Douglas on Friday and in Ramsey and Peel on Saturday.

The 10 minute dash will see a wide variety of people, some in fancy dress but all wearing bras, race through the streets to raise money for the charity.

Angie Aire started the event. She said: "I started the dash in 2005 following my own survival of breast cancer. I wanted to show others that you can survive this disease and raise awareness to those who think 'it will never happen to me'."

Over the last six years fundraisers have collected £106,000 for the charity. Last year the bra dash raised £21,300 and Angie is hopeful that this year's event will top that.

Angie has also revealed that there will be a "top secret celebrity" starting the dash in Douglas.

On Friday the Castletown Bra Dash will start at 1pm in Castletown Square and the Douglas Bra Dash will start at the entrance to Marks and Spencer's car park at 1.15pm.

On Saturday the Ramsey Bra Dash will start at 12.30pm at Shoprite and the Peel Bra Dash will start at Market Place at 2pm.

Anyone and everyone can get involved. The event is free to enter and sponsorship forms can be downloaded from www.bradash.com.
