by isleofman.com 11th May 2011

SEVEN cyclists from the Isle of Man are limbering up in preparation for a bike ride which will cover almost 1,000 miles.

The team, who are raising money for The Children's Centre and the NSPCC, will ride from Lands End to John O'Groats – a distance of 970 miles.

The cyclists raising money for the local charity are John Knight, chief executive, Mark Humphrey, director, and Jim Murphy, residential team member, from The Children's Centre, Steve Shimmin from MAC Financial and personal trainer Andy Parker.

Paul Warburton and Chris Palmer, who both work for Coutts, will be raising money for the NSPCC – the company's chosen charity in the UK.

The team will leave the Island on Friday, May 20, and will begin their ride the next day. They expect to cycle for around 100 miles each day before reaching their destination on May 30.

A volunteer driver will follow the cyclists in a minibus which will carry the team’s food and equipment.
