Cancer patient worried by loss of breast specialist

by isleofman.com 11th May 2011

A terminal cancer sufferer says she doesn't believe breast cancer care in the Isle of Man is heading in the right direction.

At a public meeting on Monday night, Health Minister David Anderson confirmed his department would be replacing a breast care specialist with a general surgeon with an interest in breast care.

He repeatedly reassured those present that the standard of care would not be compromised, but faced a barrage of criticism.

'Doreen' says she came to the meeting with an open mind, but left with worries that losing the specialist would have an impact (play audio file):

East Douglas MHK Brenda Cannell has vowed to continue fighting the move, taking the matter to Tynwald if necessary.
