The medical adviser to the Council of Cancer Charities in the Isle of Man is supporting the Department of Health's plan to appoint a general surgeon with an interest in breast care.
At a meeting last night (Monday), Health Minister David Anderson faced a barrage of criticism for the move, despite repeatedly telling those present that the standard of care on the Island would not be compromised.
Professor Howard Scarffe says cancer treatment has improved dramatically over the years and he doesn't believe the move would be detrimental.
He also points out patients with other types of cancer have never had a specialist surgeon on the Island:
