Barrier system to come into force at car parks from Monday

by isleofman.com 10th May 2011

A BARRIER-operated system will be introduced at three Douglas car parks from 7am on Monday (May 16).

It will be in force at Shaw's Brow, the Bottleneck and Pulrose Road car parks and Douglas Council's public works committee chairman David Ashford said the new system would benefit businesses and shoppers and believes it would help cut down on people who park without paying.

He said last month: "The new system is user-friendly and convenient, offering customers a greater choice of payment as well as pre-payment cards that can be purchased and topped up in the borough treasurer's department at Douglas Town Hall.

"We also see the change to a barrier-operated system benefiting local businesses as shoppers will pay on leaving so will no longer need to curtail the time they spend in the town in order to return to the car park before their ticket expires. We would also envisage fewer incidences of parking fee evasions."

Users paying daily will have to take a ticket at the entry barrier, park their vehicle and then on their return to the car park insert their ticket into a paystation and pay, then insert their ticket at the exit to lift the barrier.
