Language test aimed at 'narrow band'

by isleofman.com 9th May 2011

How good is your English?

That's a question which is being asked after tests were introduced to ensure non-EU spouses in the Isle of Man can speak and understand the language.

A test must be taken by anyone born outside Europe, or from a non English-speaking country, who is applying to live on the Island temporarily and is in a relationship with a British citizen here.

Immigration inspector Richard Carter says it is a fairly straightforward process (play audio file):

The only exemption is for candidates who have a degree which was taught in English.

Further information is available from the Immigration Office, on 685203.
