More than 100 attend Bishop's service at Bishop's Court

by isleofman.com 9th May 2011

A CONGREGATION of more than 100 people attended a service at the historic Bishop's Court chapel at Bishop's Court, Kirk Michael, on Sunday evening.

The Bishop's Service of Sung Evensong using the Book of Common Prayer was led by Bishop Robert Paterson and he was assisted by the Reverend Canon Malcolm Convery from the Parish of Kirk Michael and The Reverend Canon Cyril Rogers from the Parish of Ballaugh.

A joint choir from the parishes led the singing.

The service was hosted by Bishop's Court owner John Morphet and the Bishop will host two more services there later this summer.

Historically the boundary between the parishes of Michael and Ballaugh runs through the chapel.

In the 17th century it was not unknown for the Vicar of Michael to officiate at the western end and the Rector of Ballaugh to be at the other.
