Property developer John Whittaker heads the Isle of Man residents who appear in the latest Sunday Times rich list, coming in at number 28 overall.

According to the paper, the 69-year-old nearly doubled his fortune in the last twelve months, and is now reportedly worth ?2.075 billion.

A large chunk of the increase is attributed to his sale of the Trafford Centre to Capital Shopping Centres in January.

Property and finance tycoon Jim Mellon is second, and 132nd overall, on ?580 million.

The 54-year-old made ?50 million last year.

Seventy per cent of his wealth is said to be tied up in thousands of apartments in Germany.

Another property magnate, Trevor Hemmings, is the Island's third resident to appear.

He is again ranked 138th and, like Mr Mellon, boosted his wealth by ?50 million, to ?550 million, in the year under review.

Isle of Man-born Gibb brothers Barry and Robin are also included, although they are listed as living in Florida.

They are at 650, with their fortune jointly put as ?110 million.

Robin bought a property in the west of the Island in 2006.
