Job losses could have been avoided

by isleofman.com 7th May 2011

It’s being claimed a reduction in overtime would have saved jobs at the Department of Leisure.

So says a Whitley Council official after five railway workers were made redundant.

Two blacksmiths, two painter/sign writers and a joiner lost their jobs with immediate effect last week as the department tried to find savings of ?800,000.

Secretary for the employees side of the council, Eric Holmes, believes the redundancies could have been avoided.
