Crews arrived at a house fire in Market Street, Peel late yesterday (Friday) afternoon, believing a child could still be inside the property.
They had also been told an adult was attempting the re-enter the building to carry out a rescue.
However, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly confirmed that everybody was accounted for, and went on to put out the flames using a hose reel.
The fire is thought to have been caused by a cigratte and was contained to a single room, with smoke damage elsewhere.
There was no working smoke alarm in the house which the Fire and Rescue Service says could have resulted in the occupants being overcome by smoke if the blaze had happened at night.
