Energy saving tips and advice at Energy Expo

by isleofman.com 7th May 2011

THE 2011 Energy Expo will continue today (Saturday).

The event, organised by the Department of Economic Development, will offer people advice on saving energy and sustainable living.

Businesses, organisations and local producers will be on hand to discuss energy saving ideas.

Local producers will showcase what is available to buy locally and will explain how doing so can reduce carbon emmisions by cutting down the number of miles it takes to transport goods.

A grower's question time will be held at 2pm for garden enthusiasts. A panel of experts will be on hand to offer tips and advice on growing your own produce.

For those interested in the marine environment, a marine spatial planning officer will be holding a workshop at 11am to assist with the development of the marine plan for the Isle of Man.

This workshop will offer stakeholders an opportunity to assist with the development of the marine plan and will take into consideration future uses in our territorial waters. It will also identify areas for suitable developments and conservation within the marine environment.

Centrica – the developer of Zone 9 of the UK's third round of offshore wind development in the Irish Sea – will be exhibiting at the expo. This will enable the company to update the government and residents of the Island with how plans are progressing.

Economic Development Minister Allan Bell MHK said: "I would encourage all those interested in learning more about energy and energy saving to visit the Energy Expo.  You will discover a whole host of businesses and non-profit organisations on hand who will be happy to offer advice and guidance."

The Energy Expo is on from 10am to 4pm at the Isle of Man College. Admission is free. There will be a free shuttle bus running between Douglas town centre and the college all day.
