THE Isle of Man Constabulary has launched a campaign to recruit the police officers of the future.
This is the seventh year that training of new recruits has been carried out solely in the Island.
Inspector Keith Kinrade, staff development manager, said: "Altogether since 2007 almost 60 students have completed the on-Island training programme.
"Thanks to links with our external partners at the Isle of Man College and Chester University, new trainees completing the student officer programme now have the opportunity to progress their academic studies by undertaking a foundation degree in policing.
"What we look for are people who are good communicators and good team players, who care about the community in which they live. They should display the constabulary’s core values of being responsible and respectful and be committed to providing a professional service.
"We are looking for individuals who relish the daily challenges the job can present."
The new intake of officers will maintain the Island's force of 236 police officers by replacing officers who retire.
The selection process includes fitness and aptitude tests which, if successful, is followed by 30 weeks of intensive training to prepare them for duties within the Neighbourhood Policing Team.
isleofman.com asked Inspector Kinrade how many new officers the Isle of Man Constabulary would be recruiting. He said: "Although we have a set number in mind to maintain our headcount, we don't focus on actual numbers for recruitment purposes as we recruit on the qualities of the individual candidate not merely to fill places."
