Island cyclist starts 1,800 mile ride to Greece

by isleofman.com 8th May 2011

TWO cyclists who are planning to ride 1,800 miles from Dover to Greece have set off on their challenge.

Kit Alexander and Johnny Howe will ride from Dover to Zakynthos in Greece.

The duo left on Friday and are due to reach their destination on June 10 after travelling through France, Italy, Switzerland and Greece.

Kit, 21, who is from the Isle of Man, is raising money for the Island's Hyperbaric Chamber. The chamber helped him recover from septic arthritis, which he contracted after an operation on his knee.

Johnny, 20, is raising money for Help for Heroes to help support wounded soldiers.

Before the duo left they spoke to pupils at Buchan School about the number of calories – 6,500 – they will burn each day. They handed out charity wristbands and conducted a question and answer session with students and teachers.
