Off-road gorse fire believed to have been started deliberately

by isleofman.com 5th May 2011

FIRE crews from Peel and Douglas spent two and a half hours extinguishing a gorse fire in Peel last night.

Police believe the fire, which was in the vicinity of the Ragatt on Patrick Road, was started deliberately.

Crews were called at 9.31pm after reports that an off-road area around 50 metres by 60 metres was on fire.

Two fire appliances from Peel and two off-road Pinzagauers from Douglas attended the scene and extinguished the fire by 12.04am.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service has appealed to the public to be vigilant as gorse fires can spread quickly. Fires can be difficult to extinguish and can tie up fire crews and equipment for long periods of time.
