Hundreds of children to feature in concerts next week

by isleofman.com 5th May 2011

HUNDREDS of primary school students will be taking part in two concerts at Ballakermeen High School, Douglas, next week.

The shows will be known as the Live! Concerts.

Music and drama staff from Ballakermeen have been working extensively in primary schools over recent months to prepare a range of music and drama performances which include singing, dancing, choral speaking, samba drumming, 'sonic poems' and African music.

The first concert, on Thursday, May 12, at 6.30pm, will feature St. Thomas', Fairfield, St. Mary's, Murray's Rd and Anagh Coar pupils.

On Friday, May 13, it will be the turn of children from Vallajeelt, Kewaigue, Ballacottier, and Manor Park to take to the stage

The pupils, from Years 4 to 6, have worked hard to create solo pieces and have learned three full ensemble numbers for all schools to sing.

All seats have been claimed by proud mums and dads so there will be a capacity audience on both nights for the hour-long shows.

Organiser Steph Gomaa, who is deputy head of the arts faculty at Ballakermeen, said: "It will be wonderful for so many families to see the terrific work the children have been doing.

"My colleague Chris Maybury and I regularly work in our associated primary schools and we are really happy that the children's achievements will have a wider audience.

"Everyone will have an occasion to remember and to be proud of when all the hard work pays off."
