The Isle of Man's Passport and Immigration Office is introducing a new set of language requirements for non-European migrants who move here to live with their partners.
Immigrants wanting to stay on the Island with their British spouse or fiance will now have to prove they can speak and understand English.
They can do so by passing an approved language test, by being from a majority English speaking country, or by having an degree-level qualification which was taught in English.
The new test applies to anyone who is a non-European migrant and wants to enter or extend their stay in the Isle of Man as the partner of a British citizen or a person settled here.
A 'Knowledge of Life in the United Kingdom and Islands' test already has to be passed by such people who want to live in the Isle of Man indefinitely.
