Island's basking sharks focus of BBC documentary tonight

BASKING sharks that reside in Manx waters will be the focus of a BBC documentary this evening (Sunday).

 

The sharks will be shown as part of a four part TV series called Britain's Secret Seas which will start on BBC 2 at 8pm.

 

The episode – called Giants of the West – will show the television crew working alongside the Manx Basking Shark Watch Society.

 

They will be shown taking DNA samples, using a kitchen scourer, in order to assess the genetic health and long-term fitness of the animals.

 

Viewers will also see the team encounter a large swarm of jellyfish.
