Use pedal power to raise funds for The Children's Centre

by isleofman.com 4th May 2011

A CYCLING adventure will take place in July to raise funds for The Children's Centre.

The Fenella to Flamborough Head Challenge will see fundraisers cycle coast to coast across the Isle of Man and England.

The 181-mile challenge will be held from July 15 to 17.

The first day of riding begins at 6am at Fenella Beach in Peel and riders will cycle across the Island to catch the ferry to England.

Upon arrival in Heysham it will be straight back in the saddle for riders who will then begin an epic 170-mile ride to Flamborough Head in Yorkshire.

On the way the route passes through some of northern England's most beautiful scenery.

The route will be on roads which are part of the Sustrans cycle route - so a road bike or mountain bike with road tyres will be adequate.

Along the way there will be stops at cycle friendly inns, pubs, hotels and cafes.

It's not a race so the event is suitable for recreational cyclists and groups of riders will be matched depending on their ability.

All money raised from the event will be used by The Children's Centre to help support children, young people and families across the Isle of Man.

Fundraising co-ordinator for The Children's Centre Mark Eastham said: "The Fenella To Flamborough Head Challenge presents a unique opportunity to cycle the breadth of the Isle of Man and England taking in some breathtaking scenery along the way.

"This is a challenge open to all cyclists; with 'seeded' speed groups there's something for everyone."
