by isleofman.com 4th May 2011

A LOCAL card shop has been nominated for two awards in a national competition that celebrates greeting card retailing in the UK.

Mantons Card and Toy Store in Port Erin is a double finalist in the 2011 Retas awards, which recognise small and large retailers in the greeting card industry.

The shop has been nominated in the Best Greeting Card Retail Initiative category in recognition of a fundraising day held for Cancer Research.

Assistant manager Claire Scott has been nominated in the Card Shop Employee of the Year category. Claire, 20, who joined the company two years ago, is the youngest ever finalist.

Shop owner Chris Beards said: "I was especially pleased that Claire is a finalist. This is a well deserved recognition for all her hard work and commitment to help customers which is something all of us at Mantons takes pride in."

All of the finalists have been chosen by a panel of greeting card publishers who looked at the products offered, the retail environment, customer service and marketing initiatives. The winners will be announced at the Dorchester Hotel in London on July 13.

Mantons was opened in 1987 by Tony Manton. After he retired the shop was taken over in 2008 by Debbie and Chris Bears. Since the changeover the shop has had a complete re-fit and now stocks more than 7,200 card designs.
