by isleofman.com 3rd May 2011

STUDENT police officers have raised more than £3,000 for two local charities by skiing around the Island's coastline.

11 new recruits raised £3,075 by "skiing" 115 miles on exercise equipment donated by Carrefour Gym.

The event took the students seven and a half hours to complete and saw them work in groups of three, with each conducting a 15 minute stint.

The money will be split equally between Victim Support Isle of Man and the Rob Vine Fund.

Inspector Keith Kinrade, staff development manager, said: "This is a great way for the students to engage with members of the community and in doing so raise funds for charity."

The student police officers thanked Carrefour Gym, the Isle of Man Bank, Civil Defence, Manx Mountain Bike Club, Ace Hire and Sales, and the Alpine Café as well as the general public for their generosity.

The event took place on Saturday, March 26.
