Another Manx record for Keith Gerrard

by isleofman.com 3rd May 2011

Island Games-bound athlete Keith Gerrard completed a trio of record-breaking runs on Sunday in Palo Alto, California.

Competing at the Payton Jordan Invitational, Gerrard took over 15 seconds off the Manx 10,000 metre record, setting a new mark of 28 minutes, 27.03 seconds.

In a packed lineup of 42 competitors, Gerrard held a mid-field position for the first 20 laps before moving on to the back of the leading pack in the closing stages.

A brilliant surge in the remaining laps gave him a finishing position of eighth, crossing the line as the first collegiate athlete home.

Gerrard, who has recently improved the Manx records for 1500 and 5000 metres, also achieved the qualifying standard required to earn a place at the NCAA regional final in Oregon later this month.

Keith, who is currently, placed second in the UK rankings for the 25-lap event, would like to thank the Manx Sports Aid Foundation for their continued support.
