Training opportunity for charity trustees

by isleofman.com 3rd May 2011

THE Island's Council of Voluntary Organisations (CVO), with support from the Department of Economic Development, is to host a free training event this week to enable trustees of charitable, voluntary and faith organisations to enhance their skills.

It takes place at the Isle of Man Children's Centre in Woodbourne Road, Douglas, from 6pm to 9pm this Thursday (May 5).

David Gawne, of the CVO, said: "Whether you are a committee member of a small organisation or you sit on the board of a large charity, you are a trustee and as such this training is designed to equip you with relevant information about your role, duties and responsibilities.

"This interactive training session can be an effective part of an induction for newly appointed trustees, as well as being a useful refresher for more experienced trustees. "

Mark Payne, of CPD, who will run the evening, said: "The evening will cover the legal duties and responsibilities of charity trustees, legal structures, conflicts of interest, decision making and delegation.

"There will also be the opportunity for an interactive discussion between attendees and the agenda for this discussion will be set by yourselves."

As there will be some experienced trustees attending there will be an opportunity to discuss concerns and matters of mutual interest.

Places are limited and may be booked by ringing the CVO on 673103, CPD on 676076 or emailing CVO@manx.net
