Face to Face exhibition at the Sayle Gallery

by isleofman.com 3rd May 2011

TWO artists whose work focuses on portraiture and the human figure will exhibit at the Sayle Gallery.

Svetlana Cameron and Jimmy Duggan will take part in the Face to Face exhibition which starts on Friday in the Villa Marina Arcade.

Svetlana is a classically trained artist who is devoted to the resurgence and preservation of representational painting.

She believes the highest form of art is the representation of the human figure and considers a solid knowledge of the human anatomy essential for the successful execution of her work.

She describes herself as "a figurative painter focusing on narrative subjects" and there will be an opportunity to see examples of commissioned portraits borrowed from private collections, as well as figures, genre scenes and still life paintings.

Jimmy Duggan is a local painter who primarily paints large scale portraits and figurative work in a realistic style. He claims it is his aim to record all subjected with all their cultural baggage.

The paintings that Jimmy will show at the exhibition are all of friends and acquaintances as he rarely accepts commissions. He often distorts the figures in his paintings to explore different themes and narratives and believes the emotional knowledge that he has of his subjects gives him the freedom to paint more honestly.

The Face to Face exhibition represents the first large public viewing of both of the artists' works at the Sayle Gallery.

The exhibition will run until May 27. Admission is free. It will open from 1pm to 5pm on Mondays, 10am to 5pm between Tuesday and Saturday and from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on Sundays.
