Champions again; heartbreak for Vikings B

by isleofman.com 30th April 2011

Bacchas A are champions after a dramatic last day of the season in the Wi-Manx Mixed Premier Division.

In the end, the title confirmation was the most straightforward matter of all as Bacchas became the most successful mixed team in Manx hockey.

A Karl Moore hat-trick led them home with Sean Corlett and Jamie Brown netting the others in a 5-0 win over Celts.

The meeting of two sides with title hopes of their own went the way of Valkyrs A as they sealed second spot with a 4-1 thrashing of Vikings A.

Gareth Morris (two), Greg Miller and Chris Caldwell scored the goals as Valkyrs sealed the match in a dominant first half.

Andy Harding scored the Vikings consolation.

The real drama of the day came at the bottom as Vikings B produced a super showing to defeat Bacchas B 4-0.

A hat-trick from Johnny Killey and one from Katie Errock put the pressure on Valkyrs B who then needed to defeat Ramsey A or be relegated themselves.

Amazingly, they did it in style with a 9-2 romp.

Doubles from Jonah Hull, Ali Caroon, Steven Lowe and Ollie Lockley, plus one from Sarah McChesney, sealed their safety.

It also meant that Johnny Killey finished as the league’s highest scorer, despite his team being relegated!
