International acclaim for Summerland fire song

by isleofman.com 30th April 2011

A song about the night of the Summerland fire has been voted runner up in this year’s International Song Contest at the 40th Pan Celtic Festival.

Sy Ghrianana ('In Summerland') was awarded 33 marks, one behind the winning Welsh entry at the festival in Dingle, County Kerry.

Co-written by Laura and David Rowles, and Lizzie and Dave Mclean, the song was performed by the group Ny Jinnyn.

It was selected to represent the Isle of Man in the competition at the annual 'Arrane son Mannin', or 'Song for Man', competition for original compositions in Manx held as part of last year's Cooish.
