The Isle of Man has a new deputy high bailiff.
Jayne Hughes has been appointed to the position, and is believed to be the first woman on the Island to take on a permanent judicial role.
Mrs Hughes has spent the past three years in the attorney general's chambers and previously worked in the United Kingdom's Crown Prosecution Service. Before moving to the Isle of Man she was Liverpool's assistant district Crown prosecutor.
She says she is 'very conscious' of the historic importance of her appointment, and is looking forward to serving the Isle of Man by assisting high bailiff John Needham and the deemsters with the workload at the high court.
Mrs Hughes believes there will be 'varied and not insignificant challenges ahead'.
She is married with two grown up children, and succeeds Alastair Montgomerie following his appointment as deemster.
