Heritage site attacked by vandals

by isleofman.com 29th April 2011

Police are hunting vandals who have caused damage at the Laxey Wheel site.

Officers say those responsible kicked two wooden gates off their hinges and snapped two oil service caps from the metal chains securing them in place.

It happened some time between 5pm on Monday and 9am the following day.

Police say the Laxey Wheel is an engineering masterpiece which is maintained to a high standard for visitors to come and enjoy, and it is disappointing to see there are people who do not respect it.

Anybody with information about those responsible for the criminal damage is asked to ring Braddan Police Station on 852999.
