Chernobyl 25 years on

by isleofman.com 26th April 2011

An Island organisation which helps children suffering from the effects of the world’s worst ever nuclear disaster says the after-effects of Chernobyl are plain to see – 25 years later.

On this day a quarter of a century ago, Reactor 4 at the Chernobyl plant exploded, throwing huge amounts of radiation into the atmosphere.

The Friends of Chernobyl’s Children brings groups of youngsters from Belarus to the Isle of Man each summer to escape the radioactivity.

Norman Rivers says the Eastern European nation is still suffering from the catastrophe.
