Road traffic bill goes to LegCo

by isleofman.com 26th April 2011

The minister for infrastructure says he is delighted a bill to make changes to the Road Traffic Act has passed its third reading in the House of Keys.

The Road Traffic and Highways (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill was developed from the Department of Transport's Road Safety Initiative, published in 2004.

It was also the subject of a public consultation which ended in January and resulted in some modifications being made.

The bill contains various measures, including the provision of a wider range of alternative verdicts so lesser offences can be considered by the courts, if the principal offence is not proven.

It now goes to the Legislative Council for consideration.
