Commissioner told lanes claims are 'nonsense'

A Ramsey commissioner says a regeneration committee's secrecy was to blame for angry scenes at a board meeting last week.

Leonard Singer says plans to refurbish lanes leading from the quayside sparked angry debate because commissioners hadn't known about the proposals, despite having two members on the committee.

Mr Singer claims most board members were in the dark about the scheme, and the local authority would prefer to see a later phase of the work near the town hall finished first (first part of audio file):

But the committee's chairman, Ramsey MHK Allan Bell, is dismissing the claims as 'nonsense'.

He says the local authority was involved in the plans from the very beginning (second part of audio file):
