A footpath and cycleway linking south west Douglas to the town centre is under consideration, following talks between multi-millionaire businessman Albert Gubay and borough councillors.
Mr Gubay has offered to fund the construction of a bridge over the River Douglas on land at his Nunnery Mills property.
It would connect North Quay, Lake Road and the proposed route through the Quay West development on Bridge Road, to the riverside pathway running alongside the Nunnery estate and Douglas golf course, out to Kewaigue.
The proposal came after Mr Gubay invited councillors Ritchie McNicholl and David Christian to his home in Santon, last year.
Mr Christian says they were overwhelmed by Mr Gubay's generosity and, since the meeting, his architects have drawn up a scheme including the bridge and other features.
