A former Isle of Man resident and Ramsey Grammar School teacher will feature in an ITV documentary on Sunday evening, charting the life and work of much-loved British artist LS Lowry.
Carol Ann Lowry, who used to live in Maughold and went onto teach art, was taken under his wing as a young student.
When Lowry died, she was left his money.
Lowry, always a single man, nurtured young girls with ambitions to be painters.
His namesake Carol Ann Lowry – ironically no relation - was one of these girls.
She had written to him in 1957, saying she had an interest in art and, since they shared a surname, would he offer her advice?
Some months later, he appeared on her doorstep.
After Lowry died in 1976, Carol Ann was summoned to a vault beneath the NatWest bank in Manchester by the executors of Lowry's will and found he had left his entire fortune of about ?300,000 to her.
Presented by Ian McKellen, the series of programmes starting tonight examines his powerful artistic legacy and includes interviews with those who knew him and others who have been inspired by his unique observations of Britain.
