Fayed could rival Whittaker bid

by isleofman.com 22nd April 2011

Mohamed Al Fayed could be going up against Manx-based billionaire John Whittaker's company in a bid to take over Pinewood Studios.

The Egyptian businessman has confirmed he’s considering making an all-cash offer for the 75-year-old film complex.

Any offer would be in competition to an ?87.8m takeover bid made earlier this month by Peel Holdings, the operation run by billionaire investor Whittaker.

Peel recently sold the Trafford Centre to Capital Shopping Centres for ?1.6bn and has already built a 29 per cent stake in Pinewood.

Pinewood is best known as the home of the James Bond films, as well as the Harry Potter series, and has studios in Pinewood in Buckinghamshire and Shepperton and Teddington in Middlesex.
