Bail for defendant in manslaughter case

A 19-year-old man charged with manslaughter, affray and two offences of making threats to cause death or serious injuries has been granted bail.

When Ryan James Oakey, of Wesley Terrace in Douglas, made his latest appearance before the deputy high bailiff, prosecuting advocate Jane Hughes said bail was no longer opposed, and it was granted with a long list of conditions.

The defendant must reside at an address in Ramsey, observe a 7pm to 7am curfew and be electronically tagged. He must report daily to Ramsey police station, not enter on-licence premises or purchase or consume alcohol in a public place, and provide a mobile phone number to police.

Mr Oakey is also banned from entering Douglas - other than to see his legal advisor, or to attend court or the Department of Social Services - and must not attempt to contact any prosecution witnesses.

The bail surety was ?1,000.
