MHK identifies rating discount error

by isleofman.com 21st April 2011

Charities which have received larger than expected rate bills are being told they may have been overcharged!

Premises used by charitable organisations are offered reduced water and local authority rates, but a computer fault at the Manx Treasury meant some demands didn't include the discounts.

Rushen MHK Juan Watterson discovered the problem through his involvement with the Royal British Legion in Port Erin (play audio file):

The Treasury is apologising for any confusion and inconvenience caused by the error.

Officers will be contacting all affected charities directly and any overpayments made by charities will be refunded to them.
