19  APRIL  2011 Evening Report UK stocks maintained their gains during the course of the afternoon Luxury fashion brand Burberry is the best performing blue chip after announcing that it expects profits for the financial year to March 31 to be at the top end of expectations after a strong performance in the final few months.

Miners Fresnillo, Anglo American, Lonmin, Xstrata, BHP Billiton and Vedanta Resources are also performing well.

Wealth manager Hargreaves Lansdown is firmer after assets under administration grew by £1.3bn during the three month period to £23.6bn and were up by 34% from the same period a year ago. Retail giant Tesco, however, is lower after revealing its 2010 results which were slightly below par, with the UK seeing negative like-for-like sales growth in the fourth quarter.

Finally, brewing giant SABMiller is edging higher after it saw volume growth in all markets but North America in the quarter to 31 March and said its overall financial performance was in line with expectations
