Capital staff complete fire safety course

by isleofman.com 18th April 2011

STAFF at Capital International Group are now one of the best trained in the Isle of Man on fire safety after five members of staff successfully completed a training course as fire wardens.

The company's new offices in Circular Road, Douglas have also gone through a thorough fire risk assessment programme, conducted by local experts MFR Fire Safety Consultancy.

The training programme was completed in a full day session under the guidance of Martin Rundle, a retired fire safety officer who now runs MFR.

Capital International Group chose five members of staff to act as fire wardens for the company in the event of a fire emergency. If any incident were to happen, they are charged with carrying out routine  safety checks including building sweeps to ascertain that all have evacuated and ensuring emergency services are alerted.

The staff are also in charge of monthly checks of the offices to ensure that escape routes are clear and that fire safety equipment is correctly in place. Fire alarms mechanisms are also regularly checked by an outside agency.

"It was a very interesting and worthwhile exercise," said Cathryn Floate for Capital International Group. "It is reassuring for everyone in the company that we now have a team of qualified members of staff who have been trained for fire safety purposes."

The five members of Capital International Group's staff who are now  qualified fire wardens have now received certificates from MFR Fire Safety Consultancy. They are:- Cathryn Floate, David Long, Phil Knights, Martin Jones and Doug Hornby.
