Douglas Council ask residents to support horse trams

by isleofman.com 18th April 2011

DOUGLAS Council has urged all residents to support the Island's horse trams.

Councillor Stephen Pitts, leisure services committee chairman, said: "Among the wide-ranging views to have emerged from the consultation exercise on the redevelopment of Douglas Promenade was that there is a huge swathe of support for the horse trams.

"This is especially encouraging given that 2011 marks the service's 135th year of operation. Against this background we should all take the opportunity to act as ambassadors for this unique vintage transport system.

"With this in mind the council would suggest that Island residents demonstrate their support by purchasing a season ticket which allows unlimited travel on the horse trams for the whole season and represents good value at £20 for adults, £15 for senior citizens and £10 for children under 16."

Season ticket application forms will be available in the Isle of Man Courier on April 20 and April 27. They can also be purchased online at www.douglas.gov.im or by telephoning Douglas Town Hall on 01624 696344.

This year's service will run from May 9 to September 18 from 9am to 6pm.
