Southern commissioners pool resources

Two local authorities in the south of the Island think their rubbish idea is the best way forward.

Port Erin and Port St Mary commissioners are combining their refuse collection services.

A trial service last November was judged to be a success and the two boards have now agreed to push ahead with the scheme.

Clerk to Port St Mary Commissioners Jason Roberts says one lorry will serve both areas (play audio file):

It's hoped the new lorry for the combined service will be in use by the end of July.
