CALLAN Cooper, 14, claimed his first 125GP win at the weekend during a shakedown meeting at Croft ahead of next month's visit to the same venue for the BSB championship.
After crashing out of the lead in the first race on Saturday at the North Yorkshire circuit - when the front end washed out at 100mph-plus - the Lezayre lad won the second race after grabbing the lead at the hairpin immediately before the finishing line on the final lap after a tense struggle with three other riders.
The pace was such that the top three 125s were lapping within a second of the course record held by BSB Superbike star Dan Linfoot.
Riding for the RCD Motorsports team, managed by former World Superbike champion Neil Hodgson's dad, Mark, Cooper raced into the lead in the first race on Sunday against a number of other BSB 125 runners only to see his Honda expire with an electrical fault.
He also had the lead in the fourth and final race of the meeting but was again gutted when the red flag came out following an accident.
In the re-start, an ultra-fast lights change caught him out but he battled through the field from a lowly 10th to claim third place.
The Duke Marketing sports aid recipient competes in the opening round of the title series at Brands Hatch next weekend.
