Port St Mary Post Office gets a new sub-postmaster

PORT St Mary Post Office has a new sub-postmaster.

 

Local businessman Jeff Calvert, who runs Calvert Newsagents Ltd, will take over the Post Office which is currently being run by Channel Island Newsagents, on June 23.

 

Rushen MHK's have welcomed the Post Office's continued commitment to the village.

 

Juan Watterson MHK said: "Local retail has never been under more pressure and I am delighted that the Post Office and the Calverts are cementing their commitment to Port St Mary."

 

Quintin Gill MHK said: "The Post Office is part of the heart of Port St Mary. The port has an active community and it is important that people can meet and shop in the port."

 

Chairman of the south-west regeneration committee Phil Gawne MHK added: "In terms of ensuring a quality shopping experience, this can only be good news for the people and the street scene of Port St Mary."

 

A Post Office spokesperson said Mr Calvert would be running the Post Office from his "existing premises". isleofman.com has contacted Channel Island Newsagents for comment.
