Tynwald has overwhelmingly supported expenditure of ?40 million pounds on regional sewage treatment schemes.
The approval came at the end of a debate lasting about an hour and a half, with MHKs voting 20-4 in favour and MLCs unanimously backing the motion.
It means Water and Sewerage Authority chairman Tim Crookall can now implement the Regional Sewage Treatment and Sludge Disposal strategy, for the next five years.
The scheme is split into four parts, with the creation of eight 'package sewage' plants in the north and west of the Island, and the construction of sewage treatment works at Jurby, Kirk Michael and Ramsey.
The plans also include the transfer of sewage from the 'Ramsey network' and a sludge treatment facility at Meary Veg, Santon.
