Minister harbours haulier hopes

by isleofman.com 9th April 2011

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne hopes hauliers will start to lower their prices following the news the Steam Packet has changed hands.

On Friday, the company announced it would in future be owned by a Manx-registered company backed by a consortium of banks.

Mr Gawne says freight charges on ferries have dropped since the Steam Packet faced competition from Mezeron.

But he says hauliers on the Island have been slow to pass on those savings.
