Council 'cuts its cloth' at crematorium

The economic squeeze has led to a reduction in the operating hours of the Island's only crematorium, in the chapel across the road from the TT grandstand.

Research by Douglas Borough Council has shown that for much of the year the weekly demand for up to 14 cremations could fit into two days.

Accordingly, it's been decided to drop the third day from the schedule, with the understanding it could be made available again if needed.

Chairman of the Public Health and Housing Committee Colin Cain says it may be a difficult subject, but sound businesses principles still apply:
