Tourism will strengthen ties with private sector

by isleofman.com 9th April 2011

THE Island's Economic Development Minister has said it is important to strengthen ties with the private sector in order to grow the economy.

Allan Bell MHK said he was "encouraged" by a three month review of the department's tourism function which will see a closer working relationship between the public and private sector.

Mr Bell said: "I have been keen to further strengthen the ties with the private sector as I believe that it is only through an effective public/private sector partnership that we can grow the economy for the benefit of all concerned."

Following the three month review the department has pledged a commitment to consult with the tourism industry over new strategies, to develop more effective channels of communication with the private sector and to continue to re-build relationships with the tourist industry.

It will also improve the use of research and market data to better inform marketing activities, adopt a more focused approach to marketing generally to increase the emphasis on event based tourism.

The department will increase the emphasis on public relations activities to generate TV and print coverage of the Island as a visitor destination, and work more closely with other government departments including Manx National Heritage, Infrastructure, and Environment, Food and Agriculture.
