Defendants back in court in voting irregularities case

Seven people accused of alleged irregularities in voting in last year's East Douglas by-election have appeared before magistrates.

Fifty-five-year-old Charles Stanley Lewin, of Ballavitchell Road in Crosby, faces six allegations of conspiracy, as do 24-year-old Kerry Louise Rothwell, of Summerhill Road in Onchan, and Catherine Elizabeth Liggins, aged 25, of Little Mill Road in Onchan.

Mr Lewin represented himself in court.

Thirty-eight-year-old Gail Rosemary Corrin, of Cronk-y-Berry Avenue in Douglas, is charged with three offences of conspiracy, and Marc Alan Bonser, aged 20, of Ballaughton Close in Douglas, faces one voting offence, three of conspiracy and six counts of forging documents with intent to deceive.

Fifty-year-old Geoffrey Andrew Callister, of Ballakilley Close in Port Erin, faces eleven allegations of forging documents with intent to deceive, and 20-year-old Mark Joseph Weir, of Willaston Crescent in Douglas, is charged with two counts of forging documents with intent to deceive and three of conspiracy.

All seven defendants were bailed until their next court appearance on May 25.
